Review: The Year of the Flood
This is by far the most peculiar fantasy novel I ever read. If you expect great heroes and fantastic quests, stop reading and turn elsewhere.
What you will find are the last years before an apocalypse. The apocalypse of the world as we know it. Margaret Atwood paints a very believable picture of how life could be at that point. And that is the most interesting part of this book.
There is some kind of a story, but I believe she uses it more to paint the world than the other way around. And at some point her inspiration apparently ran out and the story ends, or rather is being cut off. At least that how it appeared to me. If you like open endings, you might be more forgiving.
