Review: The House of Frozen Dreams
The first half of the book is very good. I would rate that 4 stars. The second half I only rate 3 stars.
The setting is beautiful (Alaska) and the story starts really intriguing (why is she there?, why is he going back now?). The characters (Kache, Nadia and Snag) are interesting. The prose is fine.
An enjoyable story. I think the second half would have deserved a bit more editing.
(view spoiler)[If you want to know why I think a bit more editing would have made it better:
There are 2 or 3 chapters from the perspective of Lettie. They are completely superfluous and do not really add anything. If you really needed some of that info, she could have either told it to Kache or Snag. Or Snag could know some of it.
More important. I liked the threat of Vladimir. That gave a bit of tension. But the fact that he does show up at the end and what happens then did the story no good. This is not that kind of book. It would have been way better if he had not shown up or proved dead or anything.
The second half of the book is less intense than the first half. Maybe some things should have been edited out.
